1930s DIE-CUT CARDBOARD ADVERTISING SIGNS circus lion tamer CAMEL CIGARETTES

Very rare pair of 1930’s countertop DIE-CUT CARDBOARD ADVERTISING SIGNS for CAMEL CIGARETTES, featuring a man with a whip and a pistol belt, with the companion piece that features a lion facing him, and has an image and endorsement of famous lion trainer Capt. Terrell M Jacobs, of the Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey Circus (“Camels don’t upset my nerves or get my wind!”). The man measures 22×32 inches and the lion measures 24.5×42.5 inches; both have the intact fold-out stand attached to the back. Very hard to find – I couldn’t find any of the man and only one of the lion listed in the past 15+ years of completed online auctions. Condition is VG overall: the man has some heavy damage to his head, but otherwise just shallow edge wear, a few scuffs and marks, some light spotting, and bright colors; lion has similar wear, with several large chips and bends to lion’s mane edges/corners, shallow but heavy rubbing to bottom corners; a seam of the stand on the back has partially split but it doesn’t affect how it stands up.
