Well, if you are here you are looking at the best sign I have ever seen or sold. Hotel de L’ours on top, which is french for The Bear Hotel, with a black bear in the middle. Zum Schwatzen Baren which means roughly the Black Bear Inn. Switzerland would be using both these languages which is why I believe it is from there. The metal, aging, smell of the oil paint, and rusting points me to the 1800s, although it might be earlier or later. I have not located the exact hotel from this, but this came out of an upscale family barn in Northern Michigan which was a large immigrant hub for europe. See photos for full condition, but this would look amazing in any house, man cave, pool hall, hotel or diner. Please study video and photos prior to purchase. Condition: This thing is so incredible. Honestly one of a kid. German and French writing on it which to me points to Switzerland. Most people believe this is 1800s but again this is from my research and cannot be fully confirmed. The sign, which is made of heavier metal does have a bend from age on it, does not lay perfectly flat but still can be hung. There is oil smell from the old paint on it, as well as heavy rusting and marks, which gives it an amazing old look. The one side is much better than the other, both are hand painted and still are incredible. Other marks, aging, weathering from being outside for a long time, still apply. This showstopper will only be available once, and honestly won’t be seen again. Condition 5/10. Please look at all photos for sizing and full condition.
