Dutch Broom Makers ofHamburg, Pennsylvania, right in the heart of Berks County’s Pennsylvania Dutch country. Cheaper brooms were often bulked out with lower-grade fiber, tampico, or other filler material to stretch the more expensive broomcorn further.
They were civic architects of the place. When the Crosswicks Community Association was organized in 1919 — the year before the founder’s death — the founding committee includedJosiah E. Brick andCharles W. Brick, with Josiah selected as Chairman.
